TizzBird F10/F20 custom firmware

pixelboxx-mss-49109433Description

My little sister bought a TizzBird F10 media player. There where a few things I thought there where missing, like the Google Play Store and root access. After a bit of searching I couldn’t find any hints on how to install the Play Store, enable root access or other firmwares. So I decided to make one myself.

The first release of the firmware is based on the default TizzBird_F10_update_GMS_V2_14_13012500 firmware.
I’ve made the following changes:

  • Added root access and SuperSU
  • Added the Google Play Store
  • Changed the boot animation to a basic android one, which made the device boot much faster
  • Removed the TizzBird App-store (Unnecessary)

Installation

First of all, installation is on your own risk!

Installation is pretty straight forward. Copy the firmware file to an USB stick and plug it in your TizzBird F10. Start the TizzBird Explorer, navigate to your USB stick and just click on the firmware file. You get a question if you want to install this firmware and after confirming your device reboots and flashes this firmware. During installation your device resets a few times, so don’t worry, just be patient. After a few minutes you should see the new boot logo and the device should boot like normal.

  1. Hello, i am interested in this custom firmware but i have a Tizzbird F20. I will like to have root access for many things like change the boot logo for a faster boot!

Do you know if it is possible and how to do?

    1. Yes I think it would be possible, with the same process I did with the F10. If you like I could try it with the F20 firmware, but I don’t have a F20 device, so I can’t test if my firmware works. So it might brick your device. Let me know if you are prepared to try if my firmware works.

  2. Hi Ted,
Please have a look at my blog where we talk about TizzBird’s products and more.
I would be interested in understanding what modifications you did in the original firmware to now have root access. This is something that is badly missing for instance to make a screenshot. Could you describe it (by return mail if you like to keep it confidential) ?
For your information, Google Play can be added by following a simple procedure described on my blog, without the need to have root access.

    1. Hello Fred, I will write a how-to for the changes I’ve made to the firmware. Maybe I have time in the next week, else it will be ready in the end of this month.

  3. Hey ,

I would like to make the same thing on a F30.
Can you maybe doing an how to.
And did you try to upgrade with an official firmware after a root ? i think it will working because the new official firmware erase the old one ?
    Thanks

    1. Hey, I could write a how-to, but I am currently quite busy with my new house i bought, so this it may take some time before I have the time to write it.
I havn’t tried upgrading with an original firmware, but I think the changes and root access would be gone.

  4. Hello; Your firmware works well on my F10 ! Thanks for it.
I suppose I dont have to download the V2_15 proposed by Tizzbird.
    Could you confirm please ?
    Thanks again 😉

  5. Hello,

    and great job !
(I don’t know what tizzbird developpers are doing, le firmeware misses several important things…)

Question : will this work on TizzBird F11 ?

    Thanks,
    Vincent.

    1. I don’t think it will work on the F11, but I’m in the process of describing what I did to create this firmware, so you could try it yourself.

  6. Hello,
could anyone give me a detailed step by step advice, how to get those fimware installed? I put it to a stick, – plugged in the stick to F10 but what next? The Fimware Upgrade Tool doesn’t Show me the sick. Which Explorer to use? The Tizz Filemanager or the Android Filemanager? I don’t know, please help, thx a lot.
    regards

    1. Hello Stefan,

I’ve used the Tizz Filemanager. In the Tizz Filemanager you can use the colored buttons on your remote to browse to your USB stick.
I think the stick should be formatted as FAT32.

Please let me know if these hints helped you.
      Kind regards,
      Ted

  7. Hello Ted,

sorry, but nope. Stick in Fat32 but same with NTfs,- went to Tizz Filemanager, – used red button to go to stick, and then I can’t see firmware file. There is only a Folder named ‘notifications’ with a ring ton in it. Don’t know where it Comes from. Press Menu -> File Operations, and than I can see the Firmware file. But how to execute it? I can mark it on the left side, see it an the right side, Switch to left and right and vica versa, but what next? How can I execute the file? Either you forgot something to mention or I’m to stupid. Please give me further advice, thx.
    regards

    1. I’m sorry, but I can’t imagine what the problem could be. Last time I installed I could just execute the file by pressing the Ok button on the remote.
Maybe the file browser is set to only display media files?

    1. Hello Franck, I’ve emailed you a while back. But you could try this one. Remember, it is still beta and I don’t know if this even works!

  8. Hello Ted,

While searching for a method to gain root on my Tizzbird F30 I found your post. I’m curious to know if this is still something you’re willing to look into.

    Kind regards,

    Bart

  9. Hello,
This is a question not really related to your firmware, but maybe you can help me.
I just got a Tizzbird F30 and I tried to instal a newer firmware (a normal one, not custom made like yours).
This failed and now my device won’t boot anymore.
I tried getting into the recovery mode but as I found out in diffent documentations, there is no recovery mode for the F30 in a firmware under 2.06.
I’m trying to mail with the helpdesk but it’s not all going to smoothly (they say I have to get in contact with the deliverer, but they tell me I should contact Tizzbird).
Do you have any idea what to do?
    Thanks in advance!

    R

    1. I’m sorry, but I can’t seem to have an solution for this. Maybe one of the readers of this page?

  10. Hello,

i would like to root my tizzbird F30.
    thanks for your reply.

    regards

  11. Ok thank you ted but i haven’t see your mail, maybe I not paid attention to every mails!

I will try it soon and return feedback.

  12. Hi, i have a “problem”. don’t worry it isn’t bricked. Can you contact me by mail please?

  13. Its a success! My F20 is rooted and works perfectly for now with superSU access.
    Good work ted, and thanks.

  14. Hi Ted,
bravo I see it’s been done for F20 also!
Did you do your tutorial to root Tizzbird? I would like to try for F11…
    Vincent.

  15. After educating myself about Android a bit, I’ve managed to create my own update.zip that gives root access on the F30 🙂 I’ve tested it on several different firmware versions (up to and including V2_16.20130513.181628). I’ve used Superuser 3.1.3 and the included su binary from ChainsDD.
OTA updates are still available and functional. They do cause you to lose root, but simply re-flashing my update.zip afterwards takes care of that.
Please let me know if anyone’s interested in this update.zip, I’ll gladly share it 🙂

  16. hey bart !!
im really interesting by your udpate.zip for F30.
This F30 drive me crazy and if u can give me a link for your file, it will be WONDERFUL !!

  17. Hi Ted,

I want to upgrade my F10 to firmware 2.20 due to TizzRemote that I can install/use on my phone to remote control my F10.

    2 questions:
    – Are you planning to provide a custom firmware based on this 2.20 version
    – Any alternatives for TizzRemote that I can use on your current custom firmware based on 2.14

    Regards

  18. Hi everybody,
I’m really insterested in how to make a custom firmware for the Tizzbird F11.
Can Bart or Ted give me some info on How to ?
    Bye, Vince.

  19. Hi ted, if you find time for it can you explain how to do it please? because i don’t want to have to ask you to do it for us for each update!

  20. have the rom is a bad prank
That there is a program to recover broken.

Today I had to contact Tizzbird.

Materials needed for the program to use:
    * USB Host-to-Host Cable
    * E-mail address support@valueplus.co.kr application request

Translated by google translator for above.

  30. hello,

I tested your custom for F20 in 2.16 that works well for me.

lot of people looking to downgrade their version 2.2 because it bug in 2.16, it is possible with your custom version of 2.16 on a F20 downgrade?

I look forward to version 2.20 for custom F20

  31. Hello there,

I just want to thank you for your efforts.
I was using V2_16 on my F20 and everything worked just fine. For some reasons i updated to OFW V2_20 and now i’m stuck with it. It would be awesome if you could come up with a CWF V2_20.
Also if anyone here could tell me a way to downgrade the F20, it would be much appreciated.

  32. Thanks for you work Ted. I tested your F20 V2_16 and it worked. I tested OFW V2_20 because i didn’t realize that i can’t downgrade. Now i’m stuck with it.

If anyone knows a way to downgrade, i would appreciate it allot.

With your modded V2_20 i’m having the same Problems as mentioned above.
I’m looking forward to a new release, or maybe the tutorial on how to do modify the firmware.

  33. Hi, After the update (TizzBird_F20_update_GMS_V2_16_13041223.Custom.signed (106MB) i can not update anymore to V2_20 or original 2.16 and 2.2
signature failure and quit. is there an solution or workarround for this ?

    thanks

  34. Hi, confirming the same issue, after 2.16 custom update new version 2.20 is not possible signature issue. Using the original 2.20 also produces the same error. Does anyone have to mentioned tool for fxing criple firmware with a usb cable?

  35. Hi Frank

When i try to manullay install the firmware (as well your rooted one as the official FW update) my F20 abort the update because of a wrong path.

You got any idea what can be wrong? Do I need to place the update file in some kind of folder on the USB?

Would be great if you can reply, many thanks in advance
